Owners should not take pets to stores - Letters to the Editor - The ...

FRED ROSE; Olympia | ? Published September 08, 2011

I think pet owners need to be responsible.

There are laws on the books about animals in public places except for service animals. I am personally tired of seeing individuals bring their pets into stores, some on leashes, in purses, other types of carriers.

There are other shoppers who may be allergic, or have other issues such as fear of animals. Why do the majority of shoppers have to put up with the few that consider their pets part of the family?

I see animals in grocery stores where it is against the health code but for some reason those pet lovers don?t care about rules or other individuals rights.

I think it is time for the store owners to realize that it is all right to offend someone who is not following the rules. As a shopper I am offended when these animals turn up so it is all right for me to be offended but not the ones causing the problem?

Just another problem in our society about being responsible.

The Rev. R.L. Baynham, pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, Kansas City, Kan.: Is this question about animals having souls, or is it about what will happen to our wonderful and loyal pets when this life as we know it, is ended? Our desire is to be able to see our pets that have been good to us here enjoy the same benefits in the afterlife. The Bible has registered on many occasions the value of animals to man.

Many stores in New York were closed on Saturday as Hurricane Irene neared, with some posting comical signs like "Blame the weatherman. Not us" and "Evidently 'The Show Must Go On!' means nothing to Irene." But New York's shopping districts still were bustling as people piled into any store that was open.
