A master of instrumental jazz, London pianist Charles Rallo will find the words to go with his music on Monday night in the Festival Theatre lobby.
Rallo and his quartet are playing a concert titled Movie & TV Themes a la Jazz in the Stratford Festival?s Night Music series.
?I will be introducing each song as I give information I have compiled from research around the movies, TV shows and the actors who participated in them,? Rallo says.
Joining Rallo are two London musicians ? bassist Peter Hysen and guitarist Chris Norley ? and drummer Richard Brisco, a former Londoner.
Rallo moved to London in 1996 after being based in Toronto much of his career. Encouraged by London jazz pianist John Noubarian, Rallo began to return to performance, playing club dates and other gigs.
Earlier in his career, Rallo led the house trio at Toronto?s Town Tavern, backing such jazz stars as Sarah Vaughan, trumpet players Clark Terry and Donald Byrd and tenor sax players Stan Getz, Al Cohn and Zoot Sims.
Rallo is a graduate of Oscar Peterson?s Advanced School of Contemporary Music and also studied with Canadian arranger Gordon Delamont. He was also part of Peter Appleyard?s quartet.
The Night Music series continues on selected nights this month, July and August. On June 24, Laura Burton and Ian Harper celebrate American composer Stanley Silverman?s 75th birthday with a concert of his Stratford-related compositions.
