Hatherleigh vs. Mount Burr ? Round 11
Hatherleigh Milestones
Congratulations to Hatherleigh?s Tom Pegler for reaching the milestone of 50 games.
Hatherleigh Under 11?s
As the season heads in to its second half the young ?Mighty Flying Eagles? headed to the Burr to have a great fun game of footy. The Burr has a heap of young champs and between us we had 40 young ones on the park. We welcomed some new older recruits to the team with Sam, Tyson and Fraser pulling on the boots for the game to take the pressure off the bench for the Junior Colts, well done lads and I?m sure you will agree it is a lot of fun being a big fish in a small pond!
The kids got into it from the get go and it was especially pleasing to see the older boys on both sides willing to pass off and bring the younger kids into the play.
Everyone got a kick and it was a really competitive game. Hatherleigh Ladies Committee award to Sam who was skilful and unselfish all day and the Subway award to Miles who copped a knock from friendly fire, picked himself up and got a great kick away!
Hatherleigh Junior colts
The junior colts fought out a tough game against a very determined Mt Burr. After a slow start the players lifted in the second quarter & played some great contested footy. As usual Luke McGregor led the charge with his attack on the ball & Max Telfer was determined & reliable in the back pocket. Harry Coote after a spray at quarter time & Louis Brown were dangerous in attack, assisting in all our scoring opportunities & kicking a few very important goals. Doug Treloar & Jacob Lang let the coach know they are not happy starting on the bench every week, by getting straight into the action & making the most of their limited opportunities. In the end it was a great team effort with over 12 players worthy of an award. The awards went to Luke McGregor (Toy kingdom), Jez Jones (Garry Nilsson), Bailey Poulish (Subway), Max Telfer (Hath ladies committee), Jacob Lang (Sport & Rec Steak).
Hatherleigh Senior colts
It was a tough day for the senior colts; they got beaten comfortably in all formats of the game. They could not match the desire, competiveness or skills of the opposition. Hopefully the lads can take something away from the game, and are able to see what is required to play against the higher ranked teams. While the score was not flattering, there were a few who stood up. Jed Telfer and Brady Gibbs had a good second half standing up in defence. Bradley Slape was committed all game and worked hard in the backlines, never giving up. There were two standout performers for the team, James Gilbertson worked tirelessly in the middle fighting for every possession and Mason Bunt had a true captains game, running in straight lines from defence and showed great commitment in the ruck to play his best game by far for the year. It is important the lads reflect upon what happened and what they can do to improve. Next week is a new game, and hopefully the endeavour can be improved.
Best Players: M. Bunt, Seebohm Sportspower Award, J. Gilbertson, G Nillson Award, D. Sutherland, Subway Award, B. Lang, HFC Ladies Committee Award, J. Telfer, Hatherleigh Sport & Rec Steak Award.
Hatherleigh B Grade
With lots of changes again this week we were hoping for a good showing against the ?Burr?. Beggsy was giving everyone a football lesson from the 1st bounce. His delivery to the forwards was outstanding and he also kicked 6 himself in a BOG performance. Lovers,Bowie and Fitzy battled hard in the middle to get the ball out to our runners in Scuddsy (1st game in 2 years) and Casper.Hainsey showed he has made a full recovery from his ice pack burn with a great mark going back with the flight of the ball(Jonathan Brown like). Also a highlight was the performance of our president in his goal umpiring display. It is good to see him take it so serious and it certainly won?t be long before the turn styles are ticking over with people coming to watch his performances! Today we are back home against ?The Doo? in what is another must win game. Good Luck!
Best Players: S. Beggs, Millicent 4WD Systems Award, T. Loveday, Prince of Wales Hotel Award, S. Fitzgerald, Millicent Golf Award, J. Grover, Thursday Night Tea Award, Incentive Awards: M. Bowman, N. Stratford
Hatherleigh A grade
Our A grade side went into this round 11 clash with Mt Burr with one goal in mind, getting the four points. The last encounter was a one sided affair but Mt Burr had made some huge improvements heading into this game and a tough match was on the cards. To make things even more challenging our coach Craig Skeer was bed ridden with the notorious ?Man Cold? which left Ciaran Buckley to make his coaching debut. He certainly found out what the other side of football was like as the first quarter was a tough & physical affair. Mt Burr had control early in the contest but the boys got rolling once the game settled and had a 2 goal lead at the first break. The game would continue in the same fashion in the second quarter with an arm wrestle developing and both teams trading goal for goal. Some wasted opportunities in front of goal by our boys meant it would be a close contest in the second half.
Some changes were made at half time with Matt Fabris moved onto Gregory, Tom Bell shifted to full forward and Sam Waring starting in the ruck. The boys were challenged to produce the intensity & commitment we have become renound for this season and responded accordingly. We dominated possession through Waring?s ruck work to Saunders & Sullivan & a constant supply to our now dangerous forwards. We were able to establish a match winning lead & with a final challenge issued, ran a tired Mt Burr side who were fiercely competitive all day off the park. The boys hard running from defence and slick and skilful ball movement was a feature. Jack Sullivan was a standout for the day kicking 5 and collecting a B.O.G with it. Josh Sandland worked hard down all day under pressure and held a dangerous Bevan to 3 goals. Ciaran Buckley and Tylah Saunders both led from the front and Todd Watson plus Jase Bateman put in four quarter efforts to be the main contributors. This week we look forward to Kalangadoo and putting together a four quarter effort before Mexican night held later in the Hatherleigh clubrooms.
