The Trane Energy Consulting Engineer (ECE) is a key role within the Trane Energy Advisory Services program aimed at providing more value to Trane's customers through ongoing energy and financial consultation. The ECE supports the following services under Energy Advisory Services: Trane Intelligent Services (TIS), Trane Energy Manager, Trane Optics and the System Assurance Program for PACT projects. The ECE works closely with Account Managers, Project Developers, Service Technicians and customers to evaluate building performance and provide recommendations to the customer to improve performance. The ECE is based out of the local sales office and reports to the lead project developer and is expected to have in depth knowledge of the local customers building systems and operations in order to provide expert advice on how to improve building operations through operational changes, controls optimization and system upgrades.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in energy engineering consulting, project management and HVAC systems, controls, operation and service.
The Trane Energy Consulting Engineer provides building systems optimization expertise to demonstrate improvement in the performance of customer buildings via TIS, TEM and TO technologies. This position works directly with the local energy engineering team, field sales teams on new contract sales and fulfillment, customers and account managers.
Essential Job Functions
Use data and trends available through BAS, Trane Intelligent Services (TIS) Command Center and Trane Energy Manager (TEM) to monitor and evaluate building performance for Trane BAS Service Agreement customers. Provide recommendations to the Trane Account Managers and Customers on actions to be taken to improve building performance. Work with energy engineers to provide quarterly reports for BAS Service Agreement customers.
Use Trane Optics and utility interval data to support sales team with opportunity identification and energy project development for preliminary energy audits. Use data to consult customers on actions to be taken to improve building performance.
As part of the Systems Assurance Program, use all available data, energy models and construction documents to support Trane PACT customers during the first year of operation following completion of an energy project. Meet with project team and customer monthly to review project performance to ensure that energy savings expectations are met.
Ability to develop solid relationships with internal and external customers
Have the capability to discuss both technical concepts around HVACR and Controls, as well as understand and converse at the business/strategic level. Capability to quickly adapt to new software and web based interfaces.
Comfortable engaging at the C and D Suite level in customers organizations. Good communication skills
Must maintain a positive attitude that seeks to find solutions to challenges. Ability to interact with outside customers, and bring value to the building performance offerings. Respond effectively to meet the needs of internal and external customers.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to thrive in a team environment and effectively communicate in a matrix organization.
Demonstrated ability to cope with stress and maintain a professional and cooperative temperament. Serve as a role model in consistently using and advocating the corporate standards, processes and tools.
Ability to offer business judgment on the investment of time and resources for opportunities. Perform other duties as assigned, often requiring output with short notice.
Percentage of Travel: 20%. This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related
Minimum 1 year work experience in commercial HVAC or facilities engineering OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience required. Experience in HVAC and Controls Industry required.
Experience in owner direct sales desired. Experience with building energy modeling desired. Facility Solutions Background & Perspective is beneficial - HVAC, Lighting, Controls, Envelope, Construction
Excellent Communication Skills - Oral, Written, Executive Presentation, Training. General Attributes - Impeccable Business Ethics, Professional image, Exceptional Organizational Skills, Innovative, Customer Focused, Good Business Judgment
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and other technical accomplishments preferred. Valid Driver's License and proof of personal vehicle insurance
