Halloween is a fun time of year . . . and the onset of the official fall/winter holiday season. ? A lot of small business do market for the Halloween season . . . gift shops, flower shops, and bakeries are a great example of businesses that typically do well on this holiday. . . but there are many small businesses who don?t utilize Halloween, and it really can be a great opportunity to connect with customers.
Here are five tips for small business marketing for the Halloween holiday:
1. Have your staff dress up on Halloween as their favorite characters. ? Take photos and post them on your social media pages (Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) so people can see that your business is fun!
2. Have a costume contest ? have your customers submit pictures via your social media pages of their kids in costume and give away some prizes (recognize the most original, scariest, funniest, etc.). ?Your customers most likely have kids, and a lot of them put a great deal of effort into their children?s halloween costumes. ?They would love to be recognized and this is a great way to do that, while increasing customer loyalty.
3. Have a Halloween decoration contest ? a lot of people love to dress up their yards and houses for Halloween. ?I remember when I lived in Atlanta, there was this one street ? and every single house was lit up with amazing Halloween stuff, people would go to that street just to see what they would do every year! ?Again ? people put so much work and effort into this process, they would love to be recognized.
3. Create a Halloween theme ? add some Halloween elements to your social media pages, newsletter, and in your store ? to let people know you are in the spirit of things!
4. Partner with companies that are offering Halloween products ? the flower shops, costume shops, card shops, hardware store (for pumpkins), etc. ? and offer a coupon or a Halloween guide to your customers, that shows them where they can get cool Halloween stuff . . . for decorating, costuming, etc.
5. Have a Halloween bake-off ? have your customers submit their recipes online for their favorite Halloween goodies! ? You could share these ideas in your email newsletter, or print them out and share them in your store.
There are so many fun things that you can do for Halloween and your customers will love you for it ? it is a festive, rather zany type of year when people are genuinely having fun. ?Let your business share the fun and reap the benefits of customer loyalty, too!
