Dorchester company and college team up to find work

A DORCHESTER firm has joined up with Kingston Maur-ward College to help young people find work placements for their apprenticeships.
Training and recruitment company Pro Education will be working with students at the college to provide help and advice on CV writing, interview techniques, and to let youngsters know what Dorset employers are looking for in their new recruits.
Area manager for Pro Recruitment Jo Adkins said: ?I believe Pro Education will have a positive impact with the on-site workshops and also in securing apprenticeship placements with local employers and education establishments.?
The programme was previously run by sister company Smart Recruit-ment, which has branches in Dorchester, Poole and Yeovil.
Tutors at Kingston Maurward say the scheme, which combines the expertise of both companies, is already proving to be successful.
Danielle Moors, a hospitality apprentice at Kingston Maurward has been recruited by Pro Education.
Danielle?s manager Darlene Reid said: ?Having Danielle as an apprentice in hospitality has been a great opportunity not only for Danielle but for the department as a whole.
?As well as the expected benefits of an extra pair of hands, it has focused the team on individual roles and responsibilities and made us think about whole department structure.?
She added: ?Danielle has brought a young, fresh approach and attitude and her eagerness to learn has had a really positive effect on the team.
?By having an apprentice we?ve been able to look at certain elements of the workload and implement processes to make us more efficient.
?I?d recommend any employer who has the chance of having an apprentice to take it up.?
Kingston Maurward offers disciplines from accounting to agriculture, and apprentices work 37 hours a week for a salary, which is paid by their employer, and their training is funded by the government.

APPRENTICE Matthew Eckley from Weymouth is gearing up for a career in the auto industry.
Former All Saints School student Matthew had no idea what he wanted to do until he attended a careers evening and an idea was sparked about vehicle maintenance.
He enrolled on a course at Weymouth College and carried out work experience in a local garage.
After getting top marks in his class he went for an interview for an apprenticeship at the garage for which he is now working, Auto Maintenance, and was given a trial period before being made permanent.
Matthew, 17, loves his work and has learnt a lot.
Former Scout Matthew has also been a member of the Rookie and Weymouth Canoe Lifeguards since the age of six.
He did the Christmas Day Swim when he was 12 and raised ?300, which he used to pay for activities when he went to Kenya to work with youngsters.
