Eat the View: Suffolk Food and Drink Awards 2012 | The Suffolk Coast

The Suffolk Food and Drink Awards are a celebration of our flavoursome county. With its proud heritage of farming, coastal fishing and brewing, few places can boast the rich variety of produce found in Suffolk. The county?s producers and purveyors grow, rear, catch and cook some of the best food and drink to be found in Britain.

The Food and Drink awards recognise the achievements of businesses in the food and drinks business from across the industry. From local butchers to neighbourhood pubs, the Suffolk Food and Drink Awards recognise the potential and achievements of Suffolk businesses.

The ?Eat the View? category in the Suffolk Food and Drink awards recognises businesses in the growing/production/retailing of food within the two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs).

The Suffolk Coast & Heaths and Dedham Vale AONBs are two of the finest landscapes in Britain. Cherished for their natural beauty and distinctive character, they were designated as AONBs to ensure their conservation and enhancement for future generations.

This award recognises a business dealing in the growing / production / retailing of food within the two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB?s) that incorporate some of the most outstanding countryside in Suffolk and north Essex ? the Dedham Vale AONB & the Stour Valley and Suffolk Coast & Heaths AONB.

The winning business will be able to demonstrate that it is aligned with the core aims of the AONB areas by displaying the following qualities:

  1. Running the business in a way which aims to help conserve and protect the special qualities of these protected landscapes
  2. Actively working towards or already achieved an environmentally sustainable business model
  3. Contributing to the diversity and sustainable economic fortunes of the local area ? in particular through the generation of revenue which remains largely within the AONB area from visitors outside of the area.
  4. Offering a ?standout? product or service which positively enhances overall perceptions of Suffolk and north Essex.

Both AONB?s are championed by the AONB teams working together with a Partnership of local and community groups who care about the special landscape, its environmental and cultural quality, and the future of its communities.
