The airlines have said they will refuse to honour the European Union's Emissions Trading Scheme.
The EU's scheme was launched in 2005 and came in to law on January 1st this year.
All airlines using EU airports are obliged to pay for the cap-and-trade scheme as part of the EU solution to climate change.
The China Air Transport Association told Reuters that China would not cooperate with the European Union on the ETS and refused to impose surcharges on customers relating to the emissions tax.
CATA represents four major airlines in China. They are flag-carrier Air China Ltd, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Hainan Airlines.
The European Commission has made no comment on the refusal by China.
